UFC Brazil Press Conference In Brief

After a few technical snags, we finally got to watch this conference live. Taking place in city hall and joined by the mayor, Dana revealed his plans for the UFC in Brazil.  Also in attendance were, Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, Mauricio Rua, Jose Aldo and MMA pioneer Royce Gracie.

Dana announced a ppv event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 27, 2011.  It is still unknown who will be fighting, but Dana said “expect to see all your favorite Brazilian fighters on the card”. This will be the first time the UFC had an event in Brazil since Ultimate Brazil (UFC 17.5) on October 16th, 1998.

Also mentioned was that Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen will NOT be the coaches for TUF 13. For all those of you who voted for it on our poll, better luck next time 😉

None of the other coaching ideas make sense mentioned above.. the show is stale as it is.. two boring no charisma coaches would make it a ballache .. no offense.. also.. wandy would probably have assaulted Chael on the show so I understand the decision.. that wouldn’t be good for anyone.. lol

  2. mmayse says:

Unless it’s Faber/Torres, I really won’t be interested. Who are they going to put up against each other I wonder? I guess they can’t make most of the matches until after f’n March.

  3. bvrasp says:

Lesnar boys LEEEESSSNAR… Like I said before, $$$$$.

The real question is, who’s going to be the heel? Lesnar or Mir? lol. Lesnar has that bully style ego and Mir is sometimes cocky, sometimes indifferent, but always manages to aggravate someone.

  4. mmayse says:

Mir can actually teach them something. Lesnar is still fucking learning. It’s kind of silly to have someone who is so inexperienced teach up and comers. We shall see.

    • MMAKansas says:

Yeah here’s what I see with Lesnar:

Lesnar: ‘Kay guy’s Im gonna go hunting with Matt Hughes my wrestlin’ coach will be helpin’ you guys today”

Mir: ‘F-YOU BROCK I HATE YOU! YOU RUINED MY WIFE, SHE CALLS ME A B-CH EVERY NIGHT IN HER SLEEP! ARGHHHHHHHH!! AHHHHHH!!! (makes mad angry face).

Lesnar: “Yeah? She does that because I am the baddest son of a b-ch in the world, and she want’s a REAL man, like I want a REAL beer, not budlight, perhaps a COORS, while I go hunt defenseless animals”.

Mir: (sobbing profusely now, no inteligible words being said, just babble and snot and tears)

    • bvrasp says:

The coaching teams do most of the work and the “coaches” probably give them a few tips here and there. Rampage is the perfect example, he even said he’s not a coach, etc..

Lesnar could definitely show them a thing or three about wrestling, just not much else.

  5. mmayse says:

Also BV we saw Team Evans dominate them, just like with this season. Good coaching usually means producing good fighters.

    • bvrasp says:

Actually Kos is probably a better coach than GSP, but Georges brought in the better coaching team, guest coaches, etc. Where he beat Kos was in the strategy of picking fighters and picking fights.

I totally agree with your point, but I just don’t think these guys are being chosen for their coaching skills.

  6. richard says:

i think there personalitys have nothing to do with there coaching abilities look at tito hes a prick but a great coach

  7. MMAKansas says:

BTW regarding P4P best of all time fighters.. Fedor, Anderson, and Wanderlei have the longest title reigns and most finishes than any other champions in UFC/Pride/Strikeforce – the fact is, while GSP is really good and very dominant, he’s going to be no better than Hughes at retirement unless he can top Andy’s records, which I don’t think he will be able to..

    • bvrasp says:

No better than Hughes is still pretty damn good man! hehe. Nobody is saying Georges is the best of all time, but he’s right up there P4P, no question about it. He doesn’t have to beat Anderson to be an amazing fighter, he’s already cleaned out his division.

PLUS, he’s 6 years younger than Anderson, he’s got lots of time to catch up and possibly surpass Anderson’s achievements.

      • MMAKansas says:

Well he will never surpass Andy’s achievements if he doesn’t finish his opponent’s. Nobody cares if you have a ton of wins if you can’t finish .. fact is.. Andy is so dominant not because he lays on people or plays it safe, but because he can knock out or submit everyone he fights WHEN HE CHOOSES.. that’s nuts man .. but it’s a fact..

    • richard says:

u had to put wandy in there

  8. richard says:

plus i doubt wandy was ever in that category a great fighter but p4p i doubt it.

    • bvrasp says:

Richard, I think he put Wand in there because he was the reigning Pride champ for like 5 years. Besides being an exciting fighter and a finisher, Wand was also very consistent.

Wand easily makes my GOAT list.

      • MMAKansas says:

Greatest Of All Time baby – top 5 on my list fo sho.. GSP is too .. but he’s just not a finisher so I have a hard time putting him on any list, but his dominance and number of W’s gets him on it.. bleh..

  9. MMAKansas says:

Richard when did you start watching MMA regularly anyways? How can you say that about Wand and be a hard core fan? Even if you don’t like him, he held the Pride LHW title for 5 years, 2 past his prime for sure.. lol

    • richard says:

i actually started watching ufc around ufc 52 but i used to rent the old ones on tape all the time but 52 is when i started buying ppvs.im just saying the guy had a lot of nice wins but i just dont see him as p4p i mean after his loss to tito he went on a terror yes but the only names i see are quinton twice young henderson and arona out of like 15 the dude faught a lot of b and c listers 2 come on get ur heads out of the sand.

      • MMAKansas says:

I can’t respond to this “ignorance”. You have only seen the replays of his best hits, you have only watched re-runs and youtube compliations of his KO’s .. you weren’t there live watching on tv like I was dude.. before Chuck was a champion, when he fought Mirko the first time to a draw, when he knocked out Sakuraba, when he was pit against men twice his size and on roids and he was winning in IVC, and when he was fighting much larger guys on a few days notice like Mark Hunt. You just don’t get it man, and that’s okay, it was “before your time” but dude.. just because you don’t get it, doesn’t mean you have to berate me everytime I mention the guy .. he gets more love than any other fighter you have mentioned in the past 3 months. WHY? Well go out on any forum and ask and you will get the answers dude.. not trying to offend you Richard but that’s my end of it…

      • richard says:

hey man if when it comes to love and balls ill give it up for wandy the guy is something else to watch and always brings it but im just saying ur the first one to bring up guys records and wandys is great but doesnt really ring the whos whos list of the time now if i were to start talking about liddel u would fuck me sideways but i put him in the same catagory as wandy.

      • MMAKansas says:

Liddell commands respect for sure.. the only difference is that Chuck didn’t hold the belt as long as Wandy – but I also have to admit, Wand fought a lot of “Kia’s” in Pride..

    • mmayse says:

I agree with Chuck being in the same category as Wand. Both were KO artist in their primes. Both have been getting beaten in the last couple years. Wand has had a victory in the last year though. Chuck hasn’t, his last win was against Wand via decision in 07. Both are future Hall of Famers. Both are on the best ever list. Personally Wand > Chuck though

  10. richard says:

if he is on the best ever its the ladder side im sorry

  11. richard says:

    kansas
jake shields is coming on 15 straight wins i think he goes on the p4p list too

    • MMAKansas says:

      Against who?

      • mmayse says:

Are you saying his opponents weren’t that good? Because I feel the same way about Fedor. Half of his opponents were past their prime, or weren’t on his level. I think he is one of the greatest, don’t get me wrong, I just think he isn’t always fighting top competition. He use to beat and fight the best, now he doesn’t. It’s disappointing as a Fedor fan.

    • mmayse says:

He’s finished more fights than GSP, but has had more fights and decisions as well. I wonder who will get the decision when they fight.

      • bvrasp says:

“I wonder who will get the decision when they fight.”

LOL!! Your best comment to date mmayse.

      • mmayse says:

        Shields by submission.

      • bvrasp says:

With only 1 fight under his belt in the UFC, I think it’s WAY too soon for Shields to fight GSP.

If he can’t take Georges down (which he won’t) I see Jake taking the beating of his life trying to stand up.

      • MMAKansas says:

I disagree BV .. First, look at Hendo walking into the UFC and getting B2B shots.. that alone set the prescedence, then you have Brock Lesnar coming into the UFC at 1-0 and getting Mir off the fly .. which he lost, then he beats ONE GUY .. HEATH HERRING and get’s Randy Couture, the HWC of the world next.. at 2-1 he got a title shot. Jake is much more accomplished and has a 15 fight win streak going.. he’s beating Ushin Okami, Dan Henderson, Paul Daley .. and many more.. so why wouldn’t he get the shot? Who else in that division is MORE DESERVING than Jake, or has more WINS than Jake currently? Not even GSP has as many consecutive wins currently. Secondly, I know GSP is GREAT but I think Shields brings the better dry hump to the table.. he took Hendo’s big punch and then man – humped him to a decision .. only person to do that to Hendo is Rampage Jackson, and Jackson was with Tito’s camp which emphasizes grappling at the time, and Page is HUGE, if Shields owned Hendo in the wrestling, he will own GSP .. I think it will be harder because of GSP’s speed, but I think he gets the job done.

      • mmayse says:

What does one fight in the UFC have anything to do with it? He was a champion before leaving SF. That’s like saying Overreem shouldn’t get an immediate title shot in any organization.

      • bvrasp says:

Slight misunderstanding there Kansas, I didn’t mean it was too soon for him to get a shot at the title. I mean it’s too soon for him to beat GSP.

I know about Hendo, etc.. and look what happened to Hendo, he got immediate title shots and lost both.

As for the wrestling, Hendo is highly skilled, but lets face it, he’s aging and he’s not explosive enough to use his wrestling to full effect anymore. Like how Chuck is still a great striker, but without the reaction time, it greatly reduces his ability.

You hit the nail right on the head about speed. Without that explosive speed, takedowns suffer greatly. Advantage St.Pierre.

      • bvrasp says:

mmayse, again, I didn’t mean he doesn’t deserve the shot, he just won’t win the title.

For one reason or another, guys who first join the UFC, even established veterans, need some time to get used to it. Why? I can’t really say, maybe it’s the pressure or something, but it’s proven time and time again.

      • MMAKansas says:

Except A. Silva, Quinton Jackson, and Brock Lesnar right?… 😀

  12. richard says:

    WANDY IS A GREAT FIGHTER
    i never said he wasnt

  13. bvrasp says:

I’m taking bets boys, you picking Shields over GSP in Toronto? BRING IT!!! hehe.

    • bvrasp says:

If you’re so confident Kansas, why don’t you put your money where your mouth is!?!?!?

You guys are talking all that good shit, but deep down, you know Georges is gonna whoop that ass!

      😉

    • MMAKansas says:

That’s what MMAPlayground is for my brotha! LOL – I believe Shields’ 5 year win streak, (hasn’t lost since Dec. 2004) is pretty safe 🙂 .. furthermore, I think GSP is due for another shellacking, he hasn’t had one in a while and really.. he’s due man. 😀

      • bvrasp says:

yeah… that’s what I thought LOL. You can drink that GSP haterade man, but your common sense keeps you grounded in reality.

It just doesn’t make sense, why lose money on a bet just to try and prove a point?

      • MMAKansas says:

I don’t hate GSP.. he’s the coolest guy other than Wand in the UFC for sure.. I mean that. He’s cool, classy, and above the fray. As an athelete and a person, he’s top notch.

As a fighter, he’s like the impotent guy with no fingers, and no tongue, he can get her IN the sack, but he can’t get her OFF. Fact is, GSP is becoming a UD guy, and he can’t even finish a guy like KOS … it’s kinda sad. His fighting style, bores me dude, that’s not haterade, that’s like 50-75% of the MMA community right now, and your Canadian so that’s about the only reason I can see why you wouldn’t share the opinion.. if it pertained to any other fighter besides the one and only Canadian MMA Champion, (GSP) then you would grab both ankles, and PULLL!

      • mmayse says:

Exactly. I couldn’t of said it better.

      • MMAKansas says:

I think Shields just needs to grease a little.. that’s seemed to work for other fighters in the past and it might help him slip the takedown from GSP 😉 .. I am speaking of … uhhhh AKIYAMA of course 😀

      • mmayse says:

Hey, that vaseline just fell out of the corner mans pocket, on accident. They weren’t using it.

      • MMAKansas says:

@MMAYSE.. huh? Whatchoo talkin’ bout’ WILLIS?!

  14. richard says:

put ur money where your mouth is,come on kansas lets see some benjamins…..
i think gsp wins but doesnt finish hey maybe shields will win one round at least

    • MMAKansas says:

@Richard – bet huh? I find it hillarious that you NEVER put your $ where your 😀 is on ANY picks.. lol

      • MMAKansas says:

You still butt-hurt about the Wanderlei thing and now your hangin’ on BV’s ballsack in order to mess with me huh? lol .. well go ahead man.. say something else besides repeating Baron Von Rasp talking points dude.. 😉

    • richard says:

i said that gsp is ducking silva not anyone else but i do think that gsp is gonna whoop ass but to save face ill bet 100 dollars on shields i aint scared i got money to burn im a dishwasher….So whats up 100 bucks american??????

  15. richard says:

    whats up bvrasp cold feet???????

    • bvrasp says:

hehe not at all Richard, but I really wanted some of those Kansas state greenbacks 🙂

I’ll take the bet if you want, but you weren’t really talking much trash about Georges so it wouldn’t be as satisfying. But if you insist on losing a C-note, I’ll gladly take your money lol.

      • mmayse says:

You don’t think Shields can do the same thing GSP has done for the last three years? Shields is bigger, better subs, and better TDD. Only thing George has on him is striking. I see Shields eeking out of decision, or GSP getting the fight handed to him by the judges.

      • bvrasp says:

No, I don’t think Shields can do that to Georges. He’s never faced anyone with explosive wrestling like GSP. He had a hard enough time trying to get Kampmann down. While Georges has faced some of the best WW wrestlers in MMA and he out wrestled them ALL.

Shields’ TDD doesn’t even enter into the conversation, GSP won’t be looking to take him down. His strategy is always to fight guys where they’re weakest, I expect to see him sprawl and brawl against Shields.

His size is an advantage, but it might work against him because of the weight cut and Shields is known to gas out. Luckily he’s such a good wrestler he gasses and lays on top of guys, but if he gasses with GSP and is unable to get the TD, it could be a very painful night for Jake.

To say GSP has the better striking is a huge understatement, Shields’ striking is almost non-existent. I think Fitch and Kos could probably beat Shields too at this point. Same strategy, sprawl and brawl baby.

      • MMAKansas says:

@BV .. you even took up for Shields in his first fight due to the terrible weight cut man.. lol .. now it’s “he could barely get Kampman down”??? lol .. okay man ..

      • mmayse says:

Are you serious? Are you saying Dan Henderson’s wrestling wasn’t or isn’t as good as GSPs?

      • bvrasp says:

mmayse, dude, we covered Hendo already, the guy is 40 years old, he slowed down and his wrestling ability has suffered greatly. He has more skill than GSP, but so do Kos and Fitch. Skill is not the only factor, speed and athleticism play a HUGE role in wrestling.

  16. bvrasp says:

If you guys don’t like GSP because he’s boring, I can understand that. I can understand you wanting him to lose on that basis too, but stylistically he’s a bad match for Shields.

The funny thing is that you guys hate GSP for being boring and you’re singing praises about Shields when he’s even MORE guilty of boring lay n pray fighting.

Let me bring you guys back to reality for a minute…

    GSP : 13 finishes and 8 decisions.

    Shields : 14 finishes and 12 decisions.

Yet shields is some big finisher and GSP is boring?

PLUS! GSP has fought the tougher opponents over his career.

    • richard says:

hey i dont really want to lose a 100 so thanks on that and after the fight against kampmann i think its a no brainer really.

    • MMAKansas says:

@BV – Nobody EVER said that Shields is a FINISHER – what we said was ” Shields can do the same thing GSP has done for the last three years” .. lol .. bout’ time ol’ GSP got what he’s been given.. a LOSS via getting laid on .. it’s terrible to be the better “FIGHTER” but lose to someone who’s afraid to strike with you so all they do is lay on you ala Hardy .. lol ..that’s all man .. no I don’t like Shields’ style either, but hey man, as much as you guys hang on GSP’s nuts, other than nationality you just pointed it out.. their records show almost the same stats so why no love for Shield’s if that’s the way you guys “swing”? 😀

      • bvrasp says:

Personally, I don’t hate on guys for being boring and I’m also a big fan of Shields. Boring or not, the guy knows how to get it done. If the guy can take you down and control you, do something about it, don’t cry about wrestling.

The thing about Kampmann is just the truth though, Shields looked terrible in that fight, which he admitted himself. I know he’s capable of more than he showed in that fight, but still, he exposed some of his weaknesses.

If you remember, I’m also a big fan of Hughes, who many people hate, think he’s boring, etc.

Jake Shields is an excellent fighter, but can he beat GSP? I say no… Bad matchup and too soon. I’d like to see him test the waters against someone like Kos or Fitch before he’s thrown into the fire with the champ.

I got mad love for Shields, but his eyes are bigger than his stomach when it comes to Georges “god almighty” St.Pierre LOL.

And in Toronto too? LOL just try and win a decision over GSP in the T.Dot, you have a better chance of out pointing Bisping in the UK.

      • MMAKansas says:

Shield’s by dry hump dude… on paper they are the same only Shields will walk in 10 pounds heavier, and if he gets GSP down in round one, which I say he does, then after 2 rounds of being laid on we will see how “Athletic, fast, and explosive” Georges OMG NOT ANOTHER BORING FIGHT St. Pierre is.. 😀

      • bvrasp says:

They’re not the same on paper, Shields has no striking man, that’s a huge factor.

LOL @ Georges “not another boring fight” St.Pierre.

      • MMAKansas says:

Shield’s doesn’t need it, he has the chin, the heart, and the size and takedown ability I think over GSP.. has better BJJ too for sure.. GSP couldn’t even finish the armbar on Hardy.. OMG.. that’s such a purple belt move that he made man.. seriously??? lol

    • mmayse says:

Also Shields hasn’t been ktfo by Matt Serra three years ago.

      • bvrasp says:

lol are you seriously bringing up Serra? That was a fluke man, took him lightly and paid for it.

That’s like me bringing up shields being knocked out by Marty Armendarez (who?).

      • MMAKansas says:

We are comparing apples to oranges.. how long ago was Shields’ loss and how long ago was GSP’s? Time is an issue on these things.. I think GSP is still gunshy .. and you know.. Shield’s took Hendo’s punch and kept it coming and recovered, sorry but I think GSP would have “slipped and slid” his way to getting GNP’ed like GSP did under the power of Matt.. just saying in the stand up.. GSP has NEVER KO’ed anyone.. he TKO’ed a past his prime Hughes and Serra, (wow) .. but he couldnt even do that to Koscheck with a broken orbital..

      • bvrasp says:

GSP never KOed anyone? You mean knocked them out with 1 punch? no he hasn’t. Why? has Shields?? LOL

The difference is Georges beats guys to a pulp and Shields’ GnP is the weakest in MMA. No exaggeration there, the guy literally just taps on guys to elicit a ref stoppage, zero damage.

      • mmayse says:

Are you saying that Serra is on the same level as Armendarez? I guess subbing Paul Daley, Robbie Lawler, and Nick Thompson doesn’t count either right? Look at who Shields has beat. Okami, Condit, Daley, Henderson, Kampmann, Mayhem, Lawler, and Pyle. They are equal almost. To think Shields can’t beat GSP by lnp or submission in insane.

      • bvrasp says:

oooh nice little list of Shields wins, go back and check out all the scrubs he fought too. Then go check out GSP’s fights, he’s fought the better competition in their PRIME consecutively.

He was also beaten by scrubs, Georges has onyl ever lost 2 fights and both guys were champions at one time or another.

      • MMAKansas says:

Yeah Serra was a champ.. WHEN HE KNOCKED PIERRE OUT FOR .. how does that go BV? Oh yeah! FTMFW!!!! BABY!!!! lol —

      • mmayse says:

Did you not see the 9 scrubs GSP beat as well?

      • MMAKansas says:

@MMayse.. he’s blinded by that dang “Maple Leaf” covering his eyes.. lol ..

    • MMAKansas says:

@BV — you been drinkin’ Molsen before posting?? 😀

  17. bvrasp says:

Oh man, I wish this fight was happening sooner, I really want to see what you guys are going to say after GSP beats that boy uglier than Kos and Fitch combined.

It’ll be SO SWEEEEET!!! And I’m going to be there LIVE!!!!

    • bvrasp says:

Also, let me just say, it gets a bit annoying when we always agree on everything. It’s been fun to get a little beef building up on the site hehe.

      WAAAAAAAAR GSP!!!!!!!!!!

    • MMAKansas says:

Oh .. you’ll be there live.. wow .. can we get a LIVE feed on your reaction to Shields dry humping your boy to a UD on home turf?

      • bvrasp says:

LOL I can’t wait to hear all your excuses Kansas. Well he couldn’t even finish him or it was only a TKO, couldn’t even get the one punch KO!

I don’t care how he wins, once he gets the W you’re gonna be laying on your back kicking and screaming and bawling a la your Mir vs Lesnar TUF comment yesterday LOOOOOOL

      • MMAKansas says:

Hmmm .. yeah your gonna be quiet and saying .. dude wtf happened.. and then NOTHING for 3 days after Shields dry humps him .. probably something to the effect of “well now we have a wrestler with absolutly no striking as the champ, so now what, GSP would have been better” …lol .. gonna be drinkin’ that MOLSEN once Shields submits GSP in the 2nd round man .. lol

      • mmayse says:

Dude, it’s going to decision. GSP will get it handed to him, even if Shields lay and prays, and or ground and pounds on him for 25 minutes. LOL at GSP koing or tkoing anyone.

  18. MMAKansas says:

Also let me just say it’s gets annoying when GSP lays on a guy like Hardy and stares at the f-in clock hoping for it to wind down because he has no other tool in his trick bag to work on the guys GNP defense.. http://d.yimg.com/i//ng/sp/eurosport/20100328/25/8cb16902f886262567d717cbf075a3c9.jpg —- GSP IS BORING!!!!!

  19. R.J. St.Croix says:

i was a fan before GSP even had a name, so a couple boring fight isnt going to make me turn.

till someone, anyone, show they have anything for GSP i’ll continue saying he is the absolute best.

p.s. but then again im very bias, so maybe im just talkin shit lol.

  20. MMAKansas says:

HAHA.. out of about 60 post’s only a couple are related to this topic and thread.. I started a s-storm with GSP man .. you Canadian’s can’t HANDLE THE TRUTH!

  21. bvrasp says:

Pimpin aint easy, but Georges learned from the best.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIa5hr4QZOc

  22. mmayse says:

    LOL at these.

  23. bvrasp says:

Jake Shields looks like a frog… and you know what happens to frogs…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVE60zwXx1k&feature=player_embedded#!

    BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

  24. R.J. St.Croix says:

oh man i dont know if can leave vids and stuff on here, but i’ll give’r a try.

this is what it will look like if Shields steps to GSP:
